Addiction

Misuse

There is a fine line between social drinking, recreational drugs, prescription medication and what is considered substance misuse. If you ignore the early signs and symptoms of substance misuse, then your chances of developing an addiction to alcohol or drugs is greatly increased.

Some of the signs pointing to substance misuse include, but are not restricted to, regularly using alcohol or drugs to relax or improve your mood. Using alcohol or drugs to self-medicate, to reduce anxiety, stress, grief, relationship problems or coping with life in general. You may also be drinking or using more than you planned or out of habit.

You may find you are feeling guilty or lying to yourself and to others, about the amount of alcohol you consume or the number of drugs you use. You may experience memory loss or blackouts after a night of drinking or taking drugs. It is recommended if any of signs above applies to you, that you begin attending to this behaviour now, rather than waiting until it becomes urgent and you have developed an addiction.

Misuse is not restricted to alcohol or drugs, you may be worried about developing other addictions such as sex addiction, pornography addiction or gambling.

Let's Talk will work with you to help you reduce your drinking, drug use, gambling, or other addictive behaviour or help you to abstain completely depending on your goals.
